Every year, Contemporary Practices invites their first-year students to produce a single piece of artwork for publication. The result is FIRST, a collection of images and ideas, whose release coincides with Art Bash, the annual CP student exhibition. CP encourages its students to unlearn all that they knew before, so they can freely explore in their art practice. Stemming from that notion, my concept is defocus to focus; it graphically illustrates a student's progression of starting in the unclear to developing a clearer artistic voice. The internal multi-format covers function as a preview to the statement and artwork found inside. It comes in a set of two publications to accommodate the artwork of 600 students.
